Abou Kabassi Kassimou

Mr Kassimou Abou-Kabassi is currently an Independent Consultant and leads a firm that provides research, consultancy and training services in the areas of management, banking and finance.
Mr Abou-Kabassi has been a member of AFRICA 50’s Board of Directors since July 2019, following the expiry of his term of office from April 2013 to April to 2019 as Chairman of ECOBANK BENIN’s Board of Directors.
Previously, he was Executive Director of ETI, Special Adviser to the Group Chief Executive Officer on relations with governments; before that he was Regional Head, Central Africa.
As Regional Head, he implemented the Ecobank Group’s growth strategy for middle Africa, which resulted in the creation of subsidiaries in Chad, the Central African Republic, Sao Tomé and Principe, the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
He began his banking career in 1985 at the Banque Béninoise pour le Développement (BBD) in Cotonou, Benin, after working in the Financial Control Department of the Benin Finance Ministry from 1982 to 1985.
Mr Abou-Kabassi then joined Ecobank Benin in 1990 as a Senior Credit Analyst in the Credit & Marketing Department. In 1997, he became Risk Director and was then promoted to Managing Director of Ecobank Togo in 1999, Managing Director of Ecobank Mali in 2000 and Managing Director of Ecobank Cameroon in 2005, in addition to his role as Regional Head.
Mr Kassimou Abou-Kabassi holds a Masters (Maîtrise) in Economic Science (Business Management option) from the National University of Benin, a Diploma of Higher Specialised Studies (Diplôme d'Études Supérieures) (Banking specialism) from the École Nationale d'Administration, and the Higher Diploma (Diplôme supérieur) of the Institut Technique de Banque (ITB Paris, France). He has also completed an executive development programme at INSEAD (France/Singapore).
