Africa50, the infra investment platform capitalised by the AfDB, has appointed Kimberly Heimert as general counsel

Heimert joins Africa50 as general counsel and a member of the platform’s senior leadership team. She will advise on Africa50’s strategies and implementation, manage legal functions, and be directly involved in investment transactions. She will also work closely with the board as its counsel.
Prior to her role at Africa50, Heimert was vice president and general counsel at US DFI the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
US President Barack Obama appointed Heimert to the role, where she led a team of 35 legal professionals and served on OPIC’s investment and enterprise risk management committees. She was also counsel to the board of directors, audit committee, and risk committee.
Before her role at OPIC, Heimert was deputy chief counsel for loan programs at the US Department of Energy where she oversaw the legal aspects of creating and monitoring a portfolio of energy projects worth more than $30 billion.
Other roles include as a managing director and counsel at General Electric Energy Financial Services and she has also worked in private practice for Shearman & Sterling, Chadbourne & Parke and White & Case.
