On October 19 in London, at a business round table organized by the Business Council for Africa, Invest Africa, and the Africa Expert Network, CEO Alain Ebobisse outlined Africa50’s operations and progress. He emphasized that Africa50 is a development finance institution, but that in practice it is “run almost like a private sector fund which is supported by government shareholders.”

On October 13, Africa50 CEO Alain Ebobisse joined David Bohigian, Executive VP of OPIC, Joachim Nagel, Member of the Executive Board of KfW, and Linda Broekhuizem, Chief Investment Officer at FMO, for a panel discussion on the evolving role of DFIs in the world’s changing economy. Co-hosted by CSIS and EDFI, the European association of DFIs, the event celebrated EDFI’s 25th anniversary. Other speakers included Dan Runde of CSIS, Nanno Kleiterp of EDFI, and Martin Wolf of the Financial Times.

On September 12 in Dakar, Africa50 held its second Annual Shareholders Meeting. The event was hosted by His Excellency Macky Sall, President of Senegal, and opened by Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank and Chairman of Africa50.
