Description
Africa50 is a pan-African infrastructure investor and asset manager that contributes to Africa’s growth by developing and investing in bankable projects, catalyzing public sector capital, and mobilizing private sector funding, with differentiated financial returns and impact.
Africa50 has raised over US$890 million so far from 32 African governments, the African Development Bank, and two African Central Banks, and intends to reach a target capitalization of US$3 billion. Africa50 has an independent investment process and seeks to generate commercial risk adjusted returns for its investments across key infrastructure sectors: Energy (including power generation and related parts of the value chain), Midstream gas, Transportation, ICT, Health infrastructure, Education and Fintech.
Objective
The Risk Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Senior Risk Manager to ensure that risks in the Africa50 Group are properly identified, measured, monitored, reported, and managed to help protect and grow the business.
Responsibilities
The Risk Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of the overall risk strategy and policy and ensure risks taken by the Group are consistent with the Enterprise Risk Management framework and the risk strategy.
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the Enterprise Risk Management framework, tools, practices, and policies to identify, measure, report, monitor and manage enterprise risks across the Africa50 Group.
- Support in the design and implementation of second level controls and proactively identify and implement internal control improvements to ensure that risks are effectively managed.
- Support the Risk team in identifying, assessing, monitoring, analyzing and aggregating risks within the organization and reporting on these risks to the Senior Leadership Team and Senior Management across the Group.
- Develop/ Update risk dashboards and risk reports to provide information, analyses and insights to risk owners, Business Units, and the Senior Leadership Team to monitor, mitigate and manage risks.
- Support the Risk team in developing, reviewing and updating Group risk related policies and ensuring that these policies are in compliance with applicable regulations and the strategic imperatives of the Africa50 Group.
- Support the Risk team in ensuring and monitoring compliance with risk policies, procedures, and controls consistently with the risk appetite of the Group and Business Units.
- Support the implementation of risk and compliance procedures, including Integrity Due Diligence (IDD), AML-CFT, Conflict of Interest etc.
- Support due diligence exercises related to investment into Businesses Units, Funds and Platforms of the Group.
- Support the Risk team in responding to investor and stakeholder IDD requests made of the Africa50 Group and work closely with the investment and investor relations teams in responding to IDD questions.
- Assist in implementing risk and compliance education and training to ensure employees have adequate awareness and understanding of the overall risk strategy, the Enterprise Risk Management framework, other risk-related Africa50 policies and internal control standards.
- Assist the Risk team in developing and implementing technology capabilities including databases, digitalization of documentation and processes, automation, data analytics, artificial intelligence etc. to enhance the efficiency and productivity of the team and the Africa50 Group.
- Stay abreast of industry practices and knowledge.
Profile:
- At least a Bachelors’ degree in a Financial, Scientific, Mathematical, Engineering or Economics background. An honours degree would be advantageous.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years’ in-depth experience with knowledge and understanding of risk management in an investment management, development finance, private equity, or investment banking environment.
- Strong interest in and passion for financial markets.
- Good knowledge of macro-economics and finance.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written) with proven exposure to leadership.
- Good time management, project management, analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Good at building relationships.
- Self-starter.
- Problem solver.
- Sensitivity for balancing risk management with business opportunities
- Should be proficient in evaluating controls through established frameworks
- Fluent in English. French is a plus
Strong relationship to Africa - whether it be origin or a demonstrated long-term interest/commitment. Existing relationships in Africa are a plus.
