Africa50 has an independent investment process and seeks to generate commercial risk adjusted returns for its investments across key infrastructure sectors: Energy (including power generation and related parts of the value chain), Midstream gas, Transportation, ICT, Health infrastructure, Education and Fintech.

Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a skilled and strategic Internal Auditor to provide independent assurance and advisory services to senior management and the Board/Audit Committee. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that organizational risks are effectively identified, assessed, and managed in alignment with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and strategic objectives. This role will also contribute to process improvements, control enhancements, and the promotion of operational efficiency across the organization.

Principal Responsibilities 

The Internal Auditor will have the following responsibilities:

Audit Planning & Risk Assessment

  • Participate in / lead the annual audit universal risk assessment process to identify and prioritize audit areas.
  • Contribute to the development of the annual internal audit plan.
  • Maintain and update risk registers / control libraries for assigned areas.

Audit Execution

  • Design audit scopes, testing procedures, and work programs based on identified risks.
  • Perform detailed evaluation of process and control design and operating effectiveness.
  • Conduct fieldwork: testing controls, analyzing data, sampling, documentation of findings.
  • Monitor and follow up on remediation of audit findings with business units.

Reporting & Stakeholder Management

  • Prepare high-quality audit reports, including risk ratings, findings, root cause analyses, and actionable recommendations.
  • Present audit results to senior management / relevant business owners; escalate when needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders across functions (e.g. operations, finance, risk, compliance, legal, investment).

Advisory & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide advisory / consulting input (without compromising auditor independence) during design or implementation of new processes, systems, or business initiatives.
  • Suggest improvements to policies, procedures, and controls; identify opportunities for efficiencies / automation.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes, industry best practices, emerging risks (e.g. technology, cyber, ESG) and ensure audit approach reflects these.

Candidate Profile 

Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or any other related discipline.
  • Being a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), CISA, etc. would be a plus.
  • A minimum of 4 years relevant experience in internal audit, risk management; with experience in financial services / asset management / investment operations.
  • Good understanding of private equity, financial instruments, valuations. investment & asset management operations, project development, regulatory landscape. Ability to audit technology/IT controls is a plus.

Language Requirements
