Africa50 Donates MAD 2.5 Million to Morocco as Part of its Pan-African COVID-19 Relief Support Initiative

28 April 2020

The donation is part of Africa50’s three-phased COVID-19 Relief Support Initiative, under which Africa50 is providing MAD 8 million (US$800,000) to support continent-wide initiatives targeted at helping improve the continent’s capacity to mitigate the spread of the disease and minimize its impact.

The first phase, which responds to immediate public health needs, will be followed by the funding of technology-enabled e-healthcare solutions that enhance the COVID-19 response, and a third phase that will concentrate on longer term solutions to support economic stabilization and restructuring, including infrastructure project needs.

On the occasion of this announcement, Alain Ebobissé, CEO of Africa50, said “The Kingdom of Morocco is not only our host country and a founding shareholder. It has also been a critical partner for us ever since we opened our Headquarters in Casablanca. Morocco has an exemplary record in modernizing its infrastructure, which is so important for ensuring efficient public services, including during times of crisis. We applaud the government’s leadership and substantial efforts to fight the virus and manage its socio-economic impact. We stand in complete solidarity with the authorities and the Moroccan people during this crisis, as we prepare to support the country’s recovery.”
